neighbouring

Sharing a boundary

Neighbouring describes things that are next to or near each other: neighbouring countries, neighbouring towns, the neighbouring farm.

It applies to physical proximity—houses, rooms, properties—and to abstract adjacency: neighbouring cells in a spreadsheet.

The spelling is British; American English uses neighboring.
