near field communication
Contactless data exchange
Near field communication is a wireless technology that allows devices to exchange data when placed very close together—typically within a few centimeters.
It enables contactless payments, transit cards, and quick pairing between devices: I paid with my phone using NFC.
The abbreviation NFC is more common in casual use.
