near-sightedness

Distant blur condition

Near-sightedness is a condition of the eyes in which distant objects appear blurry while close objects remain clear.

The technical term is myopia.

It occurs when the eyeball is slightly elongated or the cornea curves too steeply, causing light to focus in front of the retina rather than directly on it.

Near-sightedness typically develops in childhood and often worsens through adolescence before stabilizing.

It is corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery.
