multiwindow

Simultaneous pane display

Multiwindow describes the capability to display multiple application windows simultaneously on a screen.

The term appears most often in mobile computing, where operating systems traditionally showed only one app at a time: The tablet's multiwindow mode lets you run two apps side by side.

On desktop computers, multiwindow operation has been standard since the 1980s.
