mudminnow

Small hardy fish

A mudminnow is a small freshwater fish found in North America and parts of Europe, typically inhabiting slow-moving, muddy, or weedy waters.

These hardy fish can survive in oxygen-poor environments and even tolerate being partially buried in mud during droughts, which gives them their name.

Mudminnows rarely exceed six inches in length and serve as prey for larger fish, though they're occasionally used as bait by anglers.
