mud bog

Wet dirt trap

A mud bog is a stretch of deep, soft mud—either a natural swampy area or one created for off-road motorsport events where trucks and ATVs compete to power through without getting stuck.

The term also names the sport itself: We're going to the mud bog this weekend.

Participants and spectators alike often end up covered in the stuff.
