muchness

State of plenty

Muchness is the quality or state of being much—greatness in quantity, extent, or degree.

The word is rare outside the phrase much of a muchness, meaning roughly the same, without significant difference: The two candidates are much of a muchness on economic policy.

Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" gave the word brief independent life with the Mad Hatter's question about whether Alice had lost her muchness—her essential spark or vitality.
