misestimation
Getting it wrong
Misestimation is the act of estimating incorrectly—judging a quantity, duration, or likelihood either too high or too low.
The word covers both overestimation and underestimation: The project failed due to a misestimation of costs.
It appears most often in technical or formal contexts where precision matters.
