miscarry
Lose a pregnancy
To miscarry is to lose a pregnancy before the fetus can survive outside the womb—the spontaneous end of a pregnancy, usually in the first trimester: She miscarried at ten weeks.
The older and more general sense is to fail or go wrong: The plan miscarried when the weather turned.
This sense is now rare, displaced by the pregnancy meaning.
