silent miscarriage
Undetected pregnancy loss
A silent miscarriage is a pregnancy loss where the embryo or fetus dies but remains in the uterus, with no immediate symptoms like bleeding or cramping.
Also called a missed miscarriage, it's typically discovered during a routine ultrasound when no heartbeat is detected: The scan revealed a silent miscarriage at ten weeks.
The body may not recognize the loss for days or weeks.
