minding

Keeping an eye

Minding is the present participle of mind, carrying its various verb senses into continuous action.

Most commonly it means paying attention to or being careful about something: Mind your step becomes minding your step.

In British usage especially, minding can mean looking after or taking care of: She's minding the children while I'm out.

The phrase minding your own business suggests staying out of others' affairs, while not minding indicates indifference or lack of objection: I don't mind waiting.
