griping

Airing petty complaints

Griping is persistent complaining, usually about minor annoyances: I'm tired of all the griping about the new policy.

The word suggests whining or petty fault-finding rather than legitimate grievance.

To gripe is to complain this way.

Separately, griping pains are sharp abdominal cramps, from an older sense of gripe meaning to clutch or squeeze.
