military integration
Armed services inclusion
Military integration is the process of incorporating previously excluded groups into armed forces on equal terms with other service members.
The term most often refers to racial integration—the end of segregated units in the U.S. military, formally ordered in 1948—but also applies to the inclusion of women in combat roles and the lifting of bans on gay and transgender service members.
Military integration proceeded faster than civilian desegregation in some regions.
