military command
Army leadership structure
Military command refers to the authority and responsibility to direct armed forces in operations, training, and administration.
A commander exercises military command over troops, issuing orders that subordinates are obligated to follow.
The term also denotes the organizational unit itself—a group of forces under a single commander's authority: Central Command oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
In everyday speech, a military command can simply mean an order given by a superior officer: The soldiers awaited the military command to advance.
