Between mini, maxi
Midi refers to medium length in fashion, particularly skirts and dresses that fall to mid-calf: She wore a floral midi skirt.
The term emerged as a contrast to mini and maxi lengths.
Midi also describes other medium-sized items: a midi ring sits above the knuckle, and midi controllers are compact music production devices. (All-caps MIDI is the digital music standard.)
