ulster

Long rough coat

An ulster is a long, loose overcoat made of rough cloth, typically with a belt and sometimes a detachable hood or cape.

Originally associated with Northern Ireland where such coats were manufactured, the term now refers to this style of heavy outerwear generally: He buttoned his ulster against the winter wind. (Capitalized Ulster is a province of Ireland.)
