micromachines

Minuscule mechanical devices

Micromachines are extremely small mechanical devices, typically ranging from micrometers to millimeters in scale.

The term covers tiny motors, sensors, gears, and actuators manufactured using techniques borrowed from semiconductor fabrication.

In casual use, micromachines often refers to the miniature toy cars and playsets popular in the 1980s and 1990s: I had a whole collection of Micromachines as a kid.
