mesmerization
State of spellbound attention
Mesmerization is the act or process of mesmerizing—capturing someone's attention so completely they seem entranced.
The word comes from Franz Mesmer, an 18th-century physician who believed he could heal through "animal magnetism." Today mesmerization describes any spellbinding effect: The mesmerization of the audience was complete by the end of the first movement.
