menorrhea

Uterine blood release

Menorrhea is the normal flow of menstrual blood—the medical term for a regular period.

The word appears mainly in clinical contexts and as a root in compounds: *dysmenorrhea* (painful periods), *amenorrhea* (absence of periods), *menorrhagia* (abnormally heavy bleeding).

Outside medical writing, most people simply say *period* or *menstruation*.
