mechanical system
Gears and levers
A mechanical system is an assembly of interconnected parts that transmit or modify force and motion—gears, levers, pulleys, linkages, and the like working together.
The term distinguishes such arrangements from electrical, hydraulic, or software-based systems: The clock uses a purely mechanical system with no batteries.
In physics and engineering, it refers more broadly to any collection of bodies whose motion can be analyzed through mechanical principles.
