mattress stitch

Seamless knitting join

Mattress stitch is a sewing technique used to join two pieces of knitted or crocheted fabric with an invisible seam.

The needle passes under horizontal bars between stitches on alternating sides, creating a seam that mimics the surrounding knit texture: Use mattress stitch to join the front and back panels.

The result lies flat and is nearly undetectable from the right side.
