Marine vet is ambiguous between two very different meanings.
A marine vet may be a veterinarian who treats sea animals—dolphins, sea lions, fish in aquariums: The marine vet examined the injured seal.
Or it may be a military veteran who served in the Marines: My uncle is a marine vet who did two tours in Afghanistan.
Context usually clarifies which is meant.
