low country
Flat coastal region
Low country (also lowcountry or Lowcountry) refers to flat coastal land, especially the tidal plains of South Carolina and Georgia along the Atlantic seaboard.
The term evokes a distinct regional culture known for its Gullah heritage, salt marshes, Spanish moss, and cuisine featuring shrimp, grits, and she-crab soup: We spent a week in the low country around Charleston.
