loudening

Increasing in volume

Loudening is the act or process of becoming louder, or of making something louder.

The word is the present participle of louden, a verb rarely used outside technical contexts: the gradual loudening of the crowd, a loudening roar of engines.

Most speakers would say "getting louder" instead.
