lorica segmentata
Roman strip armor
Lorica segmentata is the segmented plate armor worn by Roman legionaries, consisting of horizontal iron strips fastened to leather straps.
The design allowed flexibility while providing strong protection for the torso and shoulders.
Though iconic of Roman military imagery, the term itself is modern—ancient Romans likely called it something else.
