High soft throw
Lobing is hitting or kicking a ball in a high arc, typically over an opponent's head: She kept lobing the ball to the back of the court.
In tennis, lobing is a defensive tactic to buy time or exploit a net player's position.
The term extends to any gentle, arcing throw or shot.
