likely voter
Expected ballot caster
A likely voter is someone pollsters predict will actually cast a ballot in an upcoming election, as opposed to all registered or eligible voters.
Polling organizations use various screens—past voting history, stated intention, enthusiasm level—to identify likely voters, since their opinions better predict election outcomes than those of the general population.
The poll surveyed 800 likely voters in swing states.
