liberté
Parisian revolutionary cry
Liberté is the French word for liberty or freedom.
It forms the first element of France's national motto, Liberté, égalité, fraternité (liberty, equality, fraternity), adopted during the French Revolution and still inscribed on public buildings.
In English contexts, the French form often evokes revolutionary ideals or French national identity.
