leisure reading
Books for pleasure
Leisure reading is reading done for enjoyment rather than work, study, or obligation.
The phrase typically appears in contexts distinguishing pleasure from duty: I barely have time for leisure reading anymore.
What counts as leisure reading depends on the reader—a historian reading novels for fun, a novelist reading history.
