legendary character
Famous mythic person
A legendary character is a figure from traditional stories, myths, or folklore whose existence may be historical, fictional, or somewhere between—often embellished beyond verification.
King Arthur, Robin Hood, and Paul Bunyan are legendary characters.
The term also applies to fictional figures who have achieved cultural permanence: Sherlock Holmes has become a legendary character in detective fiction.
