leading rein
Child's horse control
A leading rein is a long strap attached to a horse's bridle, held by someone walking alongside to guide and control the animal—typically used when teaching children to ride or when leading a horse on foot.
In British usage, leading reins also describes the figurative state of being closely supervised or controlled: She's twenty-five and still on her mother's leading reins.
