drainfields

Underground wastewater treatment

Drainfields are networks of perforated pipes buried in gravel-filled trenches that disperse wastewater from septic tanks into the surrounding soil.

The soil filters and treats the effluent as it percolates downward.

Also called leach fields or absorption fields.

The inspector said our drainfield needed to be replaced.
