lauan
Tropical hardwood veneer
Lauan is a lightweight tropical hardwood from Southeast Asian trees of the genus Shorea, widely used for plywood, paneling, and interior woodwork.
Also called Philippine mahogany, though it's not true mahogany.
The wood is inexpensive and easy to work but not durable outdoors: We used lauan plywood for the cabinet backs.
