language center

Neural speech hub

The language center refers to regions of the brain responsible for producing and understanding speech, primarily Broca's area (speech production) and Wernicke's area (comprehension).

Damage to these areas causes specific language impairments.

The term also describes facilities where people study foreign languages: She enrolled at the language center to learn Mandarin.
