lamping

Hunting with lights

Lamping is hunting at night using a powerful light to spot and dazzle prey—typically rabbits, foxes, or other animals whose eyes reflect the beam.

The light freezes them momentarily, making them easier targets.

Common in rural Britain: We're going lamping for rabbits tonight.

In slang, lamping someone means hitting them hard.
