kickup

A noisy disturbance

A kickup is a commotion or fuss, often involving complaint or protest: There was quite a kickup when they announced the policy change.

The term also refers to a gymnastics or breakdancing move where someone springs from lying down to standing.

In some contexts, a kickup is an illegal payment or rebate—money kicked back to someone.
