kayak roll
Underwater paddler recovery
A kayak roll is a maneuver to right a capsized kayak while remaining in the cockpit.
The paddler uses a combination of paddle stroke and hip snap to rotate the boat upright from an upside-down position underwater.
Essential for whitewater kayaking and sea kayaking, where capsizing is common and exiting the boat may be dangerous or impractical: She practiced her kayak roll until it became instinctive.
