kaffir lime leaves
Citrus leaves, Southeast Asian
Kaffir lime leaves are the aromatic leaves of a Southeast Asian citrus tree, used extensively in Thai, Indonesian, and other regional cuisines.
The leaves have a distinctive double-lobed shape and impart a bright, floral citrus flavor to soups, curries, and stir-fries: Tom yum isn't complete without kaffir lime leaves.
They're typically torn or sliced thin before cooking, or added whole and removed before serving.
The modifier kaffir is offensive as a term for Black Africans in South Africa, but in this botanical context refers only to the plant.
