jury panel
Courtroom decision group
A jury panel is the group of citizens summoned to a courthouse from which a jury will be selected.
Before trial, attorneys question members of the panel and dismiss some through challenges, narrowing the group to those who will actually serve.
The term sometimes refers to the final seated jury itself: The jury panel returned a guilty verdict after three hours of deliberation.
