intrinsic value
Built-in fundamental worth
Intrinsic value is worth that belongs to something in itself, independent of external factors or circumstances.
A thing has intrinsic value when it matters for its own sake, not because of what it can get you: Philosophers debate whether nature has intrinsic value or only instrumental value.
In finance, intrinsic value refers to what an asset is actually worth based on fundamentals, as opposed to its market price: The stock trades below its intrinsic value.
In options trading, it's the difference between the strike price and the current price of the underlying asset.
