nominal value
Stated dollar figure
Nominal value is the stated or face value of something, as opposed to its actual market value or what it might fetch in practice.
A bond with a nominal value of $1,000 may trade for more or less depending on interest rates; a share's nominal value is the price printed on the certificate when issued, typically far below its trading price.
The term also applies to economic figures that haven't been adjusted for inflation, as in nominal GDP.
In technical contexts, nominal value refers to a designated or theoretical measurement that actual values may deviate from slightly.
