intoxications
States of drunkenness
Intoxications are states of being intoxicated—typically by alcohol or drugs, but the word extends to any overwhelming influence that impairs judgment or produces euphoria.
A person might speak of the intoxications of youth or the intoxication of power.
In medical contexts, intoxication refers to poisoning: carbon monoxide intoxication.
