intercoolers
Compressed air chillers
Intercoolers are heat exchangers that cool compressed air between compression stages, typically in turbocharged or supercharged engines.
When air is compressed, it heats up and becomes less dense; cooling it allows more oxygen into the engine, improving power and efficiency.
The aftermarket intercooler dropped intake temperatures by thirty degrees.
The term appears in automotive performance contexts and industrial compressor systems.
