inner sanctums
Most sacred spaces
Inner sanctums are the most private, protected spaces within a larger area—places where only a select few are permitted.
The term comes from the innermost chamber of ancient temples, accessible only to priests.
Now it describes any exclusive space: executive suites, private offices, or the hidden centers of power: Few reporters have penetrated the inner sanctums of the campaign.
By extension, someone's inner sanctum is their personal retreat: Her studio was her inner sanctum.
