ingrowing
Growing into flesh
Ingrowing describes something that grows inward rather than outward, especially a toenail whose edge curves into the surrounding flesh: an ingrowing toenail.
The variant ingrown is more common in American English, while ingrowing appears more frequently in British usage.
Both forms function as adjectives describing the same painful condition.
