incompletion
State of unfinished
Incompletion is the state of being unfinished or not carried through.
In American football, an incompletion is a forward pass that fails to be caught—the ball falls to the ground or goes out of bounds: He threw three incompletions in a row.
Outside sports, the word appears in formal or technical contexts: a sense of incompletion lingered after the project was abandoned.
