in-group bias
Favoring one's own
In-group bias is the tendency to favor members of one's own group over outsiders, whether that group is defined by family, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or even arbitrary team assignments.
This preference shows up in judgments of character, allocation of resources, and interpretation of behavior—people consistently give the benefit of the doubt to those they perceive as "us" rather than "them." The bias operates largely unconsciously and persists even when people believe themselves to be fair and impartial.
