imperialising

Extending empire's reach

Imperialising is the British spelling of imperializing—extending control or influence over other territories or peoples in the manner of an empire.

The term applies to political expansion, economic dominance, or cultural imposition: Western nations spent centuries imperialising much of Africa and Asia.

It can also describe imposing one's standards or practices on others: Critics accused the company of imperialising local markets.
