impanel
Form a jury
Impanel, also spelled empanel, means to enroll or select people to serve on a jury or other official panel.
Courts impanel juries by choosing citizens from a larger pool of potential jurors.
The judge impaneled twelve jurors and two alternates for the murder trial.
The term extends occasionally to other formal bodies convened for deliberation or investigation, such as a grand jury or special commission.
