challenge for cause
Biased juror removal
A challenge for cause is a formal objection to a prospective juror based on a specific reason—typically bias, relationship to a party, or inability to be impartial.
Unlike peremptory challenges, which require no explanation, challenges for cause must be justified and approved by the judge.
There is no limit on how many a lawyer may raise: The defense's challenge for cause was sustained after the juror admitted knowing the defendant.
